$17.81 - $25.38 Hourly
$37,044.80 - $52,790.40 Annually

INTRODUCTION:
Installs, diagnoses and troubleshoots irrigation related problems and equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent and three years irrigation work experience.

Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
A valid driver’s license with no major driving citations in the last 39 months may be required.
Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification may be required for some assignments.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/service assignment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Methods, tools, equipment, materials and practices used in the irrigation trade.
Motorola Central Control System and related components.
Principles and practices of safe motor vehicle operation and maintenance.
Traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in motor vehicle operation.
Microsoft Windows Office products.
Ability to:
Diagnose and troubleshoot irrigation related problems.
Design irrigation systems.
Install and repair systems and controllers.
Repair backflow prevention devices.
Work in a safe, skillful and timely manner.
Understand and use proper safety procedures.
Perform basic math calculations.
Listen and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people.
Operate a personal computer.
Attend various meetings as needed.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, inspectors and general public.
Complete required OSHA/Safety Training as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area within a division(s) which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:
• Assists field personnel with diagnosing and troubleshooting irrigation related problems.
• Designs irrigation systems.
• Performs plan reviews and makes revisions on proposed irrigation designs to ensure that they meet the City’s specifications and standards. Attends project site inspections/walkthroughs with Capital Projects and Field Services Inspectors. Formulates detailed punch lists.
• Installs, troubleshoots and repairs many types and models of irrigation controllers, including electrical troubleshooting of all the systems components.
• Performs annual testing and repair work on all types of backflow prevention devices ¾” to 6”.
• Maintains, repairs and troubleshoots numerous sizes and types of control valves ranging in size from ¾” to 8”.
• Operates heavy equipment (backhoe, small and large trenchers, dump truck and front end loader) and hand tools to install/repair irrigation components.
• Repairs irrigation mainlines from 1” to 12” in size, using components and techniques established by the industry. Trains personnel as needed.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and completed work orders.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

- Seldom sedentary and includes walking or moving. Work sometimes involves climbing elevations; requires moderate muscular exertion and lifting, bending, stooping and reaching.
- Physical and manual dexterity to operate heavy equipment (backhoe, small and large trenchers, dump truck and front end loader) and hand tools to install/repair irrigation components.
- Exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes and unpleasant odors.
- Move heavy objects over fifty pounds.
- Some work is performed in a normal City office environment.
- Travel to/from various City locations.
- Operate a motor vehicle.
- Visual and muscular dexterity to operate equipment, computer and two-way radio.
- Work various hours/schedule according to the season of the year.
